Protostudios Equipment Support Technician

Protostudios is seeking an Equipment Support Technician. This half-time role will provide support to the Protostudios staff by operating, performing routine maintenance and ancillary tasks for, a variety of Protostudios equipment. The tasks include keeping detailed records of machine maintenance, materials, and print jobs and client delivery of completed items.

Key Areas of Responsibilities and Specific Job Tasks

  • Make decisions and exercise a moderate level of autonomy while performing equipment operational, maintenance and related duties.

Engineering Project Management

  • Use project management skills to track project timelines so that routine maintenance scheduling minimizes project interference.


  • Work with other university organizations to ensure applicable equipment operational guidelines and rules are followed.


  • Create and maintain a schedule of routine maintenance which minimizes machine unavailability and complies with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Application of Technical Knowledge

  • Apply foundational technical knowledge and experience to affect regular and repair machine maintenance.


  • Prepare and administer occasional correspondence.
  • Notify staff of equipment unavailability including remedial actions and estimated time to affect related repairs.

Education or Equivalency Required 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A person holding an Associate’s degree related to hands-on trade along with appropriate experience may be considered.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in the setup and operation of complex mechanical machinery.
  • A high degree of mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, including accurate record keeping.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills, and ability to interact positively with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated working proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • The ability to meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.
  • Eligible to work with material subject to US Export Control regulations.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiar with 3D printing technology.
  • Familiar with common electronic 3D design software, e.g. Fusion 360, 3DS Max, SolidWorks.
  • Familiar with common electronic 3D design file types, e.g. STEP, DXF, STL.
  • Familiar with G-code programming language.
