The University of Iowa Facilities Management Operations and Maintenance is seeking a Building Analytic Response Specialist. This position will perform continuous commissioning activities of HVAC systems to insure proper UI design standards compliance and consistent operation strategies; Evaluate and tune existing HVAC systems to optimize performance and efficiency; Participate in building optimization activities utilizing building automation systems (BAS) and fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) software to proactively implement operational improvement measures derived from data gathering; Participate in desi gn standard consultation, prepare records and documentation to ensure that accurate as-built drawings are maintained and recorded based upon updates or changes to building operation; Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and the public while performing all work assigned..

Duties to Include:

  • Coordinate and oversee performance of outside contractors for completion of project tasks.
  • Develop work plans for project implementation based upon engineering analysis of current system performance and failures
  • Complete documentation of project actions for purposes of documenting energy savings and for collection of energy incentive funds from the local utility.
  • Conduct training for building maintenance staff on the design and operation of HVAC systems in their building.
  • Lead technical teams and coordinate work efforts to implement improvements to major building systems.
  • Participate in design review, specification standards, and cost estimating for university projects.
  • Evaluate and tune existing HVAC systems to optimize performance and efficiency. Assess existing programming and sequences of operation to verify operation meets current standards.
  • Use experience with system operation, FDD, and failure modes to develop plans for installing data loggers and other metering equipment to diagnose performance issues and monitor the benefits of the corrective actions.

Location: University Services Building (USB)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm

 

About Facilities Management:

Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards for our downtown Iowa City campus and Oakdale campus in Coralville. FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design and construction, and maintain and clean the buildings and grounds.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of related education and experience with an emphasis on building automation systems programming to support energy conservation and maintenance practices
  • Professional experience (typically minimum of 3-5 years) construction coordination of major facilities and HVAC systems, including experience in building systems design, installation, operation, and commissioning
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork and interact with clients in a professional and responsive manner
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills
  • Extensive knowledge of building automation systems
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork and interact with clients in a professional and responsive manner.
  • Ability to perform quick energy analysis related to building commissioning solutions
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff at all levels of an organization.
  • Familiarity with construction site safety guidelines
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, control drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, sequences of operation, and installation and operation manuals
  • Strong attention to detail

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in a customer focused, team-oriented environment
  • 5-10 years’ experience in construction coordination of major facilities and HVAC systems, including experience in building systems design, installation, operation, and commissioning
  • Ability to troubleshoot HVAC system problems related to controls
  • Ability to provide mechanical, electrical, and BAS control training in building systems operation
  • Able to provide clarity and direction to complex and ambiguous problems and challenges
