The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking a Senior/Network Engineer to participate in the design, implementation, monitoring and ongoing support of UIHC enterprise wireless and wired network and voice services. This position will provide a variety of technical services to include technical project management, network and voice technology consulting, and documentation.

Salary: $60,000.00 to commensurate – 4B (Network Engineer); $71,000 to commensurate – 5B (Senior Network Engineer)

Education Required

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience Requirements – Network Engineer

  • Experience, typically 1 -3 years, with data or voice services is required.
  • Experience, typically 1-3 years, in working with network infrastructure is required.
  • Experience, typically 1-3 years, with data or voice communications problem solving is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to participate in a 24x7x365 on call rotation
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety requirements.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with Cisco Wi-Fi infrastructure and related services
  • Experience with Cisco switches, routers, and management tools
  • Experience with basic Linux commands

Experience Requirements – Senior Network Engineer

  • Experience, typically 3 – 5 years with the design, installation, and management of enterprise class wireless/wired network communication backbones and services.
  • Experience with routers and layer two and three switches in a LAN, MAN and WAN environment.
  • Knowledge of the OSI model, industry best practices, and design/configuration standards for communication technologies and services
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in team environments with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety requirements.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in a Healthcare environment
  • Network Communication industry certifications
  • Experience with Linux operating system and command line administration
  • Knowledge of and experience with VRF and/or MPLS technologies
  • Experience with wireless, mobility, and/or RTLS technologies
  • Experience with Cisco Prime, DNAC, ISE, and other management tools
