Flight Test Engineering Associate

The University of Iowa, Center for Computer-Aided Design, Operator Performance Laboratory (OPL), is seeking applicants for a full-time Flight Test Engineering Associate supporting human factors experimentation using OPL flight test aircraft and flight simulator facilities. This position is restricted to U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents, due to federal government restrictions on the use of export controlled software and equipment. The OPL conducts research in human-in-the-loop and intelligent autonomous systems to increase efficiency, inter-operability, and safety. Systems of particular interest include fight decks, airborne sensor systems, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems, and automotive user interface systems.

The successful candidate will Support the research mission of the Center for Computer-Aided Design Operator Performance Laboratory by providing leadership and direction on the delivery of moderately complex research projects. Work related to aircraft instrumentation, fabrication, modeling, and simulation; data collection on site and at customer locations; and support of flight test operations will be performed.

A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. This position also requires at least one year of experience or equivalent level of training in mechanical product fabrication using a variety of materials and computer aided and manual techniques, including CAD/CAM and additive manufacturing. Experience in designing, fabricating, and installing electrical and mechanical components in aircraft or closely related systems and experience in designing, fabricating, and installing electrical and mechanical components in aircraft or closely related systems is also required.
