The Assistant Director, Cedar Rapids for Graduate Management Programs (GMP) is responsible for providing exceptional experiences for current and prospective GMP students to generate student enrollment, enhance engagement, and ensure strong retention. GMP supports the professional growth of over 1,500 full-time and part-time students seeking master’s degrees in business or business analytics as well as a variety of professional graduate certificates. In addition to Cedar Rapids, GMP offers programs and courses in Des Moines, Iowa City, the Quad Cities, and online. 

Duties include, but are not limited to: 
• Advising students under the guidance of the Director, Cedar Rapids.
• Creating and implementing professional and social programming to foster a sense of community and ensure retention.
• Coordinating the systematic correspondence for current students with the GMP Communications and Events Coordinator. 
• Assisting students with developing their personal academic plan and with identifying strategies and resources needed to accomplish their goal. 
• Responsible for the guidance and advising of the Cedar Rapids Tippie Graduate Advisory Council student group. 
• Collaborate with GMP staff to create and implement a successful experience for students in Cedar Rapids and across all GMP programs.

The position is based in Cedar Rapids with 10-20% time in Iowa City expected in most months to attend team meetings and meet with other Tippie College of Business staff. Classes run evenings and occasional weekends, a flexible schedule that includes a few evening hours each week is required when classes are in session.

As a key member of the team that supports the development and success of GMP students, the Assistant Director plays a critical role in every student’s experience and supports the team’s culture of optimism, collaboration, proactive problem solving, and stellar service to our students. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with multiple constituents within the Tippie College of Business including staff from other programs, faculty, and other business units.

Enhance and Support Student Educational Experiences and Increase Retention

• Advise current GMP students, including some evenings hours weekly, to guide registration decisions, course selection, individualized plans of study, and graduation requirements. 
• Plan and execute student services events, including professional development programming and activities to strengthen the student community and retention. Responsibilities include: identify interest areas and programming needs, develop programming, secure speakers, execute events, and solicit student feedback to utilize for future improvements.
• Manage the Cedar Rapids Tippie Graduate Advisory Council (TGAC). Meet with, mentor and guide student association officers to strengthen and enhance the GMP student experience. 
• Refer students to appropriate resources for help with personal issues, career advising, billing and financial aid.

Academic Program Management 
• Serve as a back-up for operational supervision and coordination of on-site staff and services at the Cedar Rapids campus. 
• Manage special projects as assigned to assist with enhancing the student experience. 
• Participate and work effectively with the GMP team and College of Business to develop and maintain a successful experience that meet the needs of the employers and students.

Establish and Maintain Relationships with Partners to Provide Educational Support Services
• Support designated professional and community events and sponsorships, as needed; manage the membership dues, contacts, and events with each of these respective organizations. 
• Support the Communications and Events Coordinator in managing the communication flow process for current students. This effort includes the e-newsletter, supporting and assisting in the creation of content, and identifying the need for unique or one-time messages to students. 

Site Management 
• In the absence of the Cedar Rapids Site Director, the Associate Director serves as functional supervisor for part-time Site Services Coordinators who support GMP students and faculty when classes are in session at the Cedar Rapids facility.

Required Qualifications 
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
• Proven experience (typically one to three years) in admissions/recruiting, student services, academic program support or related business. 
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, to effectively communicate with students, prospects and industry/community professionals in small- and large-group settings. 
• Superior interpersonal skills to develop and enhance professional relationships with a diverse group of prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, and colleagues. 
• Experience with planning, organizing, executing, and evaluating events. 
• Demonstrated high attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. 
&#x2022 ; Ability and willingness to work 1-2 evenings per week. 
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Desired Qualifications 
• Familiarity with the business community in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor region. 
• Experience working with a graduate program for working professionals.
• Experience with LMS systems (e.g. ICON, Blackboard, etc).
• Working knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, Salesforce in particular.
• Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and systems.
