The Tippie College of Business seeks candidates for an Assistant Director in their Undergraduate Program Office (UPO). The position is responsible for advising undergraduate business students and serving as a member of the admissions team. Responsibilities will require occasional time outside the 8:00 am to 5:00 pm workday to support recruiting activities and events.

The Assistant Director for Undergraduate Recruiting will support the UPO’s culture of optimism, collaboration, proactive problem solving and works collaboratively with multiple constituents within the Tippie College of Business and the University including International Programs and the Office of Admissions.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Recruit, Admit & Retain Prospective & Current Students for Programs, Major Departments or Colleges
• Provide holistic advising to both prospective and current undergraduate business students regarding academics, registration, admission requirements, professional development, involvement opportunities, study abroad, graduation, and policies and procedures.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of domestic and international recruitment activities, including, but not limited to Hawkeye Visit Days, You@UI, Transfer Days, Preview Iowa, Business Visit Day, Next Step Iowa, post-Tippie Gateway outreach, special recruiting presentations, Admission Information Sessions, and daily visits with prospective students and parents.
• Supervise the Business Student Ambassador Organization (BSAO), including hiring and training Ambassadors on admissions requirem ents, academic programs, and tour presentations.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of specific outreach programs and recruiting materials for underrepresented populations including, but not limited to Tippie Gateway participants.
• Manage transfer application, transfer guides, evaluation process, and admission in collaboration with the Office of Admissions.
• Support transfer student success through co-coordinating transfer orientation programs and serve as transfer student academic advisor.
• Collaborate with Tippie’s Collegiate Marketing Team to create promotional items used at admissions events.
• Serve as liaison to International Programs and International Admissions to assist with collegiate recruitment efforts.
• Assist in implementing pre-admission requirements, supporting and acclimating pre-business students applying to Tippie.
• Refer students to appropri ate resources for help with personal issues, tutoring, testing and placement, career advising, and financial aid.
• Assist in the scholarship review process for incoming first-year students.

Enrollment Management
• Co-coordinate evaluation of transfer courses from US institutions for Tippie course equivalency. Communicate about equivalencies with Tippie academic departments and the Office of Admissions.

Academic Standards and Curricular Policies
• Collaborate with Tippie and campus partners to develop and implement programs and initiatives aimed at supporting students and creating a diverse and inclusive Tippie community.

Academic Program Management (Planning, Designing, Integrating, & Evaluating Curriculum)
• Teach a section(s) of the Direct Admit Seminar. The Direct Admit Seminar facilitates a successful transition to college for first-year students. Topics include Tippie traditions and expectations; skills for academic success; academic opportunities; campus resources; career exploration skills; living and working in a multicultural and global society.
• Assist with May and December commencement activities and summer new student orientation programs.

Budget Oversight and Management
• Assist in the preparation, utilization, and monitoring of the BSAO budget.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Typically 1 or more years in a student services role supporting undergraduate success such as academic advising, academic support and retention, residence life, admission counseling, career advising, student life, or similar.
• Demonstrated ability to interact positively with a diverse population.
• Working knowledge of and experience in program management and/or event planning and execution.
• Expert knowledge of and ability to communicate effectively with individuals and large groups both verbally and in writing.
• Proficiency in MS Office computer applications.
• Demonstrated constructive and collaborative relationship building skills with a variety of individuals and groups, including peers, leadership and exter nal constituents.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Desirable Qualifications
• Reasonable experience in higher education academic advising with responsibility for a caseload of students in an ongoing advising capacity.
• Reasonable experience in student organization supervision.
• Reasonable experience with planning, implementing and assessing admissions programs and their impact.
• Master’s degree in business, student affairs, or a related field.
• Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures related to undergraduate students.
• Functional fluency in more than one language.
