Job Summary: Provides support for the teaching and research labs in the biology department. The Biology Laboratory Assistant serves primarily as a laboratory coordinator and lab instructor for the core (introductory and second-year) courses in the Biology Department. Laboratory coordination consists of ordering, setting up, and testing lab equipment and supplies, procuring or making chemical solutions, procuring field trip transportation and computing resources for labs, coordinating the BIO 150 poster session, and maintaining lab manuals and handbooks for these courses. The lab instruction duties include demonstrating lab safety equipment and procedures, assisting students with basic statistics, teaching students how to use lab instruments and software, answering student questions and trouble-shooting procedures, and helping students design research projects. The Biology Laboratory Assistant typically helps with three - four introductory courses (currently three sections of BIO 150 in the fall semester and sometimes one in the spring semester) and three to four sections of the intermediate-level course BIO 252 in the spring semester. It is a 9 month, 30 hour per week position.
Minimum Qualifications:  
·Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
·Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong work ethic.
·Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
·Ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks and shift between work duties seamlessly.
·Strong written and oral communication skills.
·Ability to work with students in a supervisory capacity.
