Duties: 
The International Writing Program, University of Iowa, is seeking to hire a 100% time Summer Institute Coordinator (Program Coordinator PAD1) to design, plan, promote and conduct the International Writing Program’s new Summer Institute. This is a three-year specified term appointment with the possibility of renewal for a maximum of three years, pending grant funding.

Key Areas of Responsibilities and Specific Job Tasks
Operational and Financial Management:
  • Coordinate and oversee the operational activities of specified programs, including logistics, travel, hosting and orientation.
  • Monitor the status of the project.
  • Maintain and analyze data on program participants, and develop specialized reports.
  • Monitor accounts and track expenditures related to the program.
  • Advise management on program budgetary needs or discrepancies.
  • Plan and arrange for appropriate facilities and services in conjunction with all project activities.
  • May be responsible for Workflow related functions.

Strategic Planning:
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of strategic plans in support of future programming for the IWP.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and recommend new programs and online resources.

Communication and Outreach:
  • Serve as liaison to participants, specialists, agencies and organizations interested in IWP program participation.
  • Counsel and provide information specific to IWP programs.
  • Write and edit articles and reports for publication and distribution.
  • Interface with other distributed learning systems such as video, web-based, satellite, etc.
  • Prepare special and periodic narrative reports.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Design application materials, orientation manuals, evaluation forms, web-content, etc.

Compliance:
  • Coordinate and monitor program to ensure compliance with grant and funding guidelines.

Quality Improvement:
  • Evaluate program, and analyze data for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Update existing programs based on evaluation and feedback.

Leadership / Supervision:
  • Supervise activities of participants.
  • May provide functional and/or administrative supervision of staff.
  • Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.

Education Required:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Arts Administration, English, Literature, Creative Writing or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 
Experience Required: 
  • Program coordination experience (typically a minimum of one year) is required
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License, ability to meet the University Fleet Safety Program, and the ability to occasionally travel.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level is required.
  • Working proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet computer software applications is required.
  • Working proficiency and experience with students in a professional or volunteer capacity is required.
  • Demonstrated working proficiency in the ability to work with variety of individuals and groups in a constructive manner while appreciating the unique contribution of diverse individuals is required.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field by start date is highly desired.
  • Some knowledge of Hindi and/or Urdu is highly desirable. 
  • Some knowledge of the literature of India and/or Pakistan is highly desirable. 
  • Working proficiency and experience utilizing social media platforms for outreach and promotional purposes is desirable. 
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust and develop self to prepare for new or changing assignments, processes, people or priorities as organizational needs dictate at a working proficiency level is desirable.
  • Some knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations is desirable.
