AmeriCorps VISTA Literacy Programs Coordinator
Cedar Rapids, IA
If you are considering a career in education or libraries or have your masters in library science this could be the perfect opportunity for you! The Cedar Rapids Public Library is partnering with the Iowa Campus Compact to recruit an AmeriCorps national service member for a one-year placement in the library’s children’s department. This position will help expand the library’s reading programs and volunteer opportunities to support literacy in our community with a specific focus on reaching those in poverty. This is part of a federally funded program designed to grow the capacity of the library in making a difference by investing in young minds.
The VISTA Literacy Programs Coordinator will primarily focus on expanding and improving the development and delivery of all aspects of the library’s summer reading program – the Summer Dare. The VISTA member will also evaluate the efficacy of all aspects of the Summer Dare programs, the different programs’ capacities for continued growth, and opportunities for reaching more students in poverty. The VISTA member will serve on the Summer Learning Committee for Reading into Success, the community’s local Campaign for Grade Level Reading initiative, to further develop reading interventions to combat the summer learning slide.
