POSITION SUMMARY
MMU’s Office of Marketing & Communications (MarCom) invites applications for a full-time Graphic Designer, reporting to the AVP for Marketing & Communications. The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating effective print and digital materials in support of the University’s brand and strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the MarCom team and campus partners to develop and implement high-quality, integrated, and compelling designs for a broad range of audiences including prospective undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, donors, current students, employees, administration, and the community.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Develop innovative and strategic marketing, communications, and branding solutions for all assigned design projects—including the collaborative creation and execution of a brand refresh. 
  2. Conceptualize, lay out, and design all print and digital materials—managing project milestones from concept to completion.
    • Print materials include postcards, flyers, self-mailers, booklets, brochures, letter/invitation packages, outdoor/banner signage, and ads. 
    • Digital materials include web/social graphics and banners, landing pages/microsites, mass email communications, digital ads, and PPTs. 
    • Evaluate existing materials for reinvention/improvement.
  3. Manage relationships with external vendors to ensure quality, consistency, and affordability.
    • Oversee commercial print rep relationships—initiate consultations on project options/timing, gather estimates, oversee print/mail production process, and process related invoices.
    • Provide guidance/support to design vendors in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  4. Identify, prepare, manipulate, and color correct photos; assist with photo/digital asset management.
  5. Manage brand assets, design libraries, and print sample library. 
  6. Keep current with, and utilize, the latest trends and best practices in graphic design and higher ed marketing. 
  7. Support the University’s online ordering portal and related invoicing needs (business cards, letterhead, envelopes, name tags, etc.).
  8. Perform other/routine office functions in support of essential duties and responsibilities. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  1. Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or marketing/communications-related field. (A degree from a non-related field with proven related experience may be considered.) 
  2. At least 5–7 years of relevant design experience in a marketing/communications environment, creating both print and digital deliverables. (Fewer years of professional experience may be considered with demonstrated skill/talent.)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  1. Strong background in design principles/production with a solid aesthetic and visual intuition. 
  2. Thorough understanding of layouts, design fundamentals, branding, conceptualization, photography, and typography.
  3. Demonstrated experience producing a variety of print and digital/web design deliverables while working effectively with other creative professionals. 
  4. Experience developing and working within a defined brand and applying it consistently across all mediums.
  5. Advanced skills in current design software (Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) as well as MS Office and Windows OS. 
  6. Experience managing vendor contracts and partnerships—especially commercial printers: requesting estimates, choosing stock types, prepping files for print, coordinating mailings, and designing creatively within USPS standards.
  7. Ability to consider multiple audiences, manage concurrent projects, and prioritize work according to strategic goals—meeting requirements and deadlines.  
  8. Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, flexible, and deadline-oriented.
  9. Exceptional organizational, time, and project management skills—as day-to-day work requires the ability to shift gears. 
  10. High level of critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  11. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills—must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
  12. Exceptional work ethic with consistent attendance and accountability necessary to meet position objectives. 
  13. Proven ability to work effectively and creatively with limited resources and function well in a fast-paced environment. 
  14. Thorough understanding of (and commitment to staying current with) print and digital design trends and best practices, especially in higher ed. 
  15. Willingness to create and manage a student designer/internship program (hire, train, supervise). 
  16. Basic understanding of how web/email designs relate to HTML/CSS implementation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  1. Experience within higher education marketing. 
  2. Experience with project management tools/software.
  3. Experience with digital cameras and photo capturing/editing.
  4. Experience with basic HTML/CSS coding and mass email platforms.
  5. Experience hiring, training, and managing others.
