Network Maintenance Technician

ImOn Communications has been the LOCAL choice for high-speed Internet, cable TV, and phone in Eastern Iowa since 2007. Since then, we have expanded our network to provide fiber Internet services to more than a dozen communities in Iowa and beyond! As we grow our network, we are looking for a Network Maintenance Technician to join our team.

The Network Maintenance Technician will perform tasks necessary for service order and repair activity associated with network facilities (copper, coax, and fiber). This position focuses on the overall operations of the network, including network performance, installation, and/or maintenance. Conducts routine network operations activities, and other duties involved with network repair and maintenance.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coax Splicing
- Splicing 860 and 715 coax cables
- Complete Ariel and Underground relocations
- Pole Transfers completed to IUB (IA Utility Board) specifications
Fiber
- Splicing fiber optic cable (loose tube, Ribbon),terminate to customer and company patch panels/equipment.
- Complete the prep work for Loose Tube and Ribbon. Be able to Mid-Sheath, and split Buffer Tubes on Fiber optic cables.
- Ability to operate Optical Time Domain Reflectometer to test fiber, analyze trace, use of visual fault light and power meter loss and readings.
- Ability to read and interpret Network Maps for HFC and Phone, and FTTH networks.
- Ability to read and interpret Fiber Splice documentation.
- Installation and turn up/testing of fiber optic Nodes.
- Turn up hard line splicing, phone, fiber, pole transfers, and network projects as assigned.
- Take part in a rotation of on call level 2 duties including Network Monitoring.
- Troubleshooting and support of the HFC Network, VOIP, Litespan, FTTH plant, Calix (FTTH) Network, and Cienna gear (Eastern Iowa Ring).
- Ensure rapid response to service issues in order to minimize downtime and restore ImOn customers as quickly as possible.
- Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, and NEC, etc and following
- Policies and procedures as outlined in the Installation, Technical, Operations, and Safety Manuals, and Employee Handbook.
- Display leadership by providing an example to fellow co-workers though knowledge, work ethic and encouraging the flow of communication in and out of the field
- Responsible for verifying, and tracking preventative maintenance, and needed repairs within the Network.
- Assist in the development of training procedures and departmental processes.
- Must accommodate various working conditions such as: Poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heat, dust, dirt, noise, insects, cleaning solutions.
- Work outdoors in all kinds of weather at all times of the day or night
- Work near power lines and electricity
- Work and travel in inclement weather
- Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time
Requirements
We are looking for people with:
- At least 5 years’ experience in one or combination of equipment installation, cable splicing, line work, installation and repair.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must accommodate on-call after-hours work as required.
- Valid state issued Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of cable plant operations.
- Ability to operate test equipment such as VOM, test sets, OTDR and Fusion splicers, and Power Source Meters.
- Ability to safely work with and around AC & DC voltage.
- Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers.
- Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs)
- Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting
- Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool belts
- Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 28 ft high and 75+ pounds)
- Employees must be able to use required personal protective equipment to adhere to safety requirements.
It would be nice if you had:
- Experience with single mode, splicing both loose tube and ribbon fiber (strongly desired).
