Fabrication Shop Manager

The Fabrication Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing sheet metal projects and equipment in the Fabrication Shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all Shop Foremen
  • Enforce safety policies and report incidents
  • Communicate with key internal and external personnel to ensure accurate understanding of project requirements
  • Responsible for fabrication plans and production coordination, ensuring that fabrication and delivery meet quality standards and are on time and on budget
  • Conduct spot inspections of work performed
  • Order/schedule cuts and material deliveries for projects
  • Coordinates with internal Design, Engineering, Project Management and Production Teams to ensure a steady flow of information
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve processes, reduce costs, and increase throughput
  • Fluently read and interpret all types of blueprints
  • Schedule crewmembers for level-appropriate duties
  • Schedule and coordinate with Teams to ensure maximum efficiency and timely completion of orders
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously
  • Provide calibration and maintenance of tools and equipment
  • Create a positive work environment, counselling employees on performance issues and concerns where required
  • Efficiently complete and submit all on-site documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be detail oriented
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of how to read and comprehend blueprints
  • Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team

Work Environment

  • Must be able to work in high pressure situations facing strict deadlines. This is not an 8-5 job, as long hours are sometimes a requirement to meet deadlines
  • Hours will often exceed 40 hours per week to effectively perform this salary position

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years’ experience in a metal fabrication environment, preferably in a supervisory role
  • Equivalent combination of education (Technical School) and experience
  • Sound knowledge of metal fabrication processes, materials, equipment, and tooling
