Overview

Under the direction of the Plant Operation Supervisor, this position requires knowledge of all the Electro-mechanical systems of the hospital and its outbuildings.  Knowledge of safety equipment to maintain these systems as well as safety equipment used in health care facilities.  The incumbent will work from blueprints and use and maintain hand and power tools.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that good relationships and communications are maintained with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • All urgent requests are handled in a timely manner.
  • Repairs are made correctly and completely.
  • Do minor carpentry, painting, plastering, and Electro-mechanical repairs.
  • Shop and mechanical rooms are kept clean and free of unnecessary items.
  • The Supervisor is to be informed on all projects so that the appropriate communications can be maintained with other departments.
  • Additional training and / or self-development are required to maintain and update skills necessary to operate and repair current and new equipment.
  • Suggestions for improvement of equipment or management policies are to be made to the Plant Operation Supervisor / Manager.
  • Logs and records are to be maintained in accordance to all Sops’.
  • Must be capable of self-evaluation to improve productivity.
  • Understands, observes, and complies with all safety precautions and procedures of the department and hospital.
  • Performs assigned duties during fire, internal, and external disasters, codes, and drills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. 
  • Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff.
  • Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.

Qualifications

Education – High school graduate or equivalent

 

Qualifications/Experience- must have a general knowledge of all Hospital Electro-mechanical equipment and systems. Must have ability to read and understand blueprints, and have a general understanding of building and grounds maintenance. The incumbent must have a technical knowledge of the hospital electrical systems, and ability to safely operate multiple types of electrical diagnostic equipment.  Must also have a basic understanding of minor carpentry, painting, plastering, and concrete maintenance work.  Must have ability to prioritize work.  Must maintain effective working relationships and communications with all hospital staff and general public. Must have effective written and verbal skills.

 

Special Skills/Knowledge- Ability to operate all hospital Electro-mechanical systems and associated repair equipment, power tools, and hand tools. Must have basic computer knowledge to assist in the operation of computer controlled systems.
