Integrated Area Operations Coordinator

Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for an Integrated Area Operations Coordinator to join the team in Cedar Rapids, IA. This position is responsible for containing costs in the field while ensuring projects are being safely and efficiently conducted per CIPCO’s standards and specs, avoiding rework and additional costs and ensuring all compliance standards are continuously being met.

  • Supervise, inspect and monitor substation and transmission line projects; address member and landowner complaints. 

  • Maintain a working relationship with CIPCO system managers and operating personnel; effectively respond to power supply problems in the service areas of the member cooperatives in the Integrated Area.

  • Coordinate and monitor new transmission and substation construction, maintenance, road move, etc. projects to ensure compliance with Engineering or Systems Operating Department specifications.

  • Implement and coordinate the preventative maintenance programs of the Cooperative 

  • Report on operating problems and problem solving progress as well as coordinate and recommend the purchase of materials

  • Assist in the development and coordination of system-wide preventative maintenance and regulatory required programs of the Operations Department, construction and operating activities with investor-owned utilities assigned to the operations and maintenance of the Integrated Area.

  • Perform and coordinate operating and maintenance projects including road moves, switch installations, substation construction and modifications, etc. as assigned system-wide.

  • Coordinate emergency services restoration with investor-owned utilities and others during major outages involving Cooperative facilities in the Integrated Area.

  • Monitor and analyze monthly and annual outage reports and recommend methods of reducing service interruptions.

  • Work with private property owners and negotiate damage settlements resulting from operating activities in the Integrated Area.

  • Support System Operations Department staff in technical duties including right-of-way acquisition, drafting, construction inspection, staking, etc. as directed.

  • Monitor electrical equipment reliability, analyze failures and recommend necessary corrective action for equipment.

  • Implement and maintain required records for compliance of regulatory required programs including Iowa Utility Board Inspection Programs, NERC, EPA PCB compliance, etc.

Requirements and Critical Success Factors
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in the electric power industry, powerline and/or substation construction or maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with budgeting, supervision, and labor relations preferred

  • Sound written and verbal communication skills

  • Planning and organizational skills

  • Able to establish a cooperative team environment by exhibiting cooperative team behaviors; shares knowledge and skills with team members; willing to assist others

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of related laws and regulations

  • Analytical with the ability to interpret financial and/or engineering data

  • Troubleshooting skills

  • Strong math skills

  • Good computer skills; especially Microsoft Office

  • Accounting and drafting experience

  • Public relations experience
