Field Safety & Health Coordinator

Job Information:

Job Purpose: 

Responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating the safety and occupational health component of personnel, materials, equipment, and environments programs to achieve safety effectiveness for the company. Assist Health & Safety Personnel, Project Managers, Project Superintendents and craft personnel to promote and ensure safe work practices and conditions.


Key Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate safety leadership by supporting the implementation and management of the MJE Safety Management System. 

• Promote proactive and preventative safety activities by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors and correcting unsafe conditions. 

• Integrate safety into project plans, establish safety goals, reinforce safety policies and procedures, support safety training, and monitor safety metrics. 

• Provide safety technical support and education for supervisors and employees and provide feedback to encourage learning.

• Monitor safety compliance, create awareness and set priorities that focus on continuous safety improvement.

• Assist with new hire general safety orientation.

• Coordinate, conduct and document safety meetings and on-site safety audits.

• Assist top management in preparing safety policies and procedures; provide support in implementing these policies and procedures.

• Ensure that federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules are observed.

• Ensure that OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met.

• Monitor activities where accidents could occur, halting any operation or activity that constitutes an imminent hazard to personnel or equipment.

• Assist in the activities of the safety committee by providing technical and administrative support.


Qualifications:

• Strong persuasive skills in dealing with management; line managers and supervisors.

• Ability to organize safety and occupational health material into lesson plans and present the material to line managers and safety committee effectively.

• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

• Ability to anticipate and meet internal customer needs.

• Ability to work with IBEW union and craft personnel.

• Proven communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

Education/Experience:

• BS/BA in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field.

• Proficient knowledge and understanding of 29 CFR OSHA 1926 Construction Industry Regulations.

• At least 3 years of occupational safety and health experience in a utility construction environment.
