Maintenance Technician


 TrueNorth Companies is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our Cedar Rapids, IA team.

The Maintenance Technician’s primary responsibility is to inspect, monitor, and participate in the repair and maintenance of TrueNorth Companies’ facilities, grounds, and equipment. Performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure property is a safe and attractive environment for employees and visitors. 

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures that all grounds and facilities are safe and operable daily. 
  • Paint, remodel, refurbish areas as needed.
  • Exterior property maintenance including general landscaping, snow and ice removal in between contractor visits, grounds clean up.
  • Occasional cleaning not covered by janitorial service (stairwell, parking lot/garages, shelving, patio). 
  • Assists in evaluating facilities and recommends repair, refurbishing, or replacement needs.
  • Reviews work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and project plans and aids in their completion.
  • Operates and maintains tools and equipment utilized for year-round maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Perform tasks related to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, general construction, and mechanics.
  • Assists in the preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment.
  • Assist with set up and tear down of on-site events.

 Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in a maintenance position required. 
  • Valid Iowa Driver’s License required.

Physical requirements: 

  • Occasionally exert 50 to 100 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and ramps, walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods. 
  • Must possess strong knowledge and maintenance skills in commercial HVAC systems, painting, carpentry, plumbing, doors and hardware, electrical, snow removal, grounds keeping, and mechanical equipment.
  • Must be flexible, dependable, and available to respond to emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Must have the ability to learn new skills and techniques as well as utilize technology, computerized maintenance programs and email.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational – must be able to manage time independently.
