Maintenance Specialist

Under general supervision assists with streetscape and maintenance-related projects in core districts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate mechanical equipment used to collect litter, sweep/scrub sidewalk surfaces and remove weeds along assigned routes
• Collect and remove litter and other debris on the sidewalks and curb lines
• Pick up paper and similar rubbish from sidewalks, flower beds, grates and alleys
• Remove graffiti by scrapping, painting or using chemicals
• Wipe down and remove cobwebs from benches, signs, trash cans and light poles
• Performs seasonal grounds duties, including planting flowers, weatherizing benches, hanging banners, tree maintenance, and snow and ice removal
• Maintain and inspect equipment; report the need for required maintenance
• Assists with needed maintenance and repair work on grounds and facilities as directed by maintenance supervisor
• Assists with set up and tear down for special events
• Takes appropriate care of tools, materials, and equipment at the work site
• Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service as directed by maintenance supervisor
• Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties
• Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas

Education & Experience Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 1-3 years maintenance or related experience
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license
