Lab Technician - Automotive Collision Repair (Part Time)

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
This position is for a lab assistant to help facilitate student learning in a live lab environment in Kirkwood’s Automotive Collision Repair Program. Key functions will be to keep a safe and productive learning environment. Assist with student needs on various projects. Help deliver timely completion of customer vehicle repairs. And assist the lead faculty with keeping projects and equipment orderly and in working condition each lab session.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist with daily lab activities through various courses each semester on student projects and customer vehicles.
- Provide and maintain a safe work environment and practices for students and faculty in a live lab setting.
- Ability to Lead/instruct a class as fill in for the lead faculty if needed.
- Keep accurate account of tools and equipment students use during lab activities and insure items are returned and in working order each lab session.
- Demonstrate knowledge and practical application of basic collision repair tools and equipment.
- Demonstrate safe work environment practices and knowledge of equipment and associated hazards.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of color mixing systems, spray applications, and color tinting/theory.
- Demonstrate Knowledge of Metal theory and hammer and dolly techniques and applications.
- Demonstrate knowledge of body filler and undercoating applications.
- Demonstrate Knowledge of removal and assembly of vehicle body panels following OEM guidelines.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to operate a down draft paint booth.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
- Degree in similar area of study or 5 years work experience
- I-car PDP-EE or similar pro level 1 training or willing to obtain required certifications upon hire.
- NESHAP HHHHHH national rule painter certification
- I-car WCS03 steel MIG welding certification
- Similar welding certifications or I-car/painter training as it pertains to the collision repair industry
