Pay is $1,294 per credit hour.   
Under minimal supervision, Kirkwood Community College is seeking an instructor to teach face-to-face Early Childhood Education coursework at the Kirkwood Washington County Regional Center in Washington, IA. Courses offered are concurrent credit to high school students exploring postsecondary career options in the areas of education, preschool, or daycare employment.
Courses of instruction include:
Fall Semester – August 26, 2024 to December 12, 2024
Intro to Early Childhood Education – Tuesday & Thursday, 7:45 am – 9:15 am
Spring Semester – January 21, 2025 to May 13, 2025
Child Health, Safety and Nutrition - Tuesday & Thursday, 7:45 am – 9:15 am

  • Effectively organize, prepare, and teach assigned courses in accordance with established syllabi to students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on a regular basis.
  • Utilize the Kirkwood Learning Management System to post course syllabi and relevant documents and provide access to student grade book.
  • Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences. 
  • Be able and willing to represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve.

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.


  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Child Development or a Master’s degree with 18 credits of graduate level coursework in the aforementioned areas.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with young children (birth to age 8) and their families as a classroom teacher or program administrator in child care centers, preschools, Head Start, kindergarten or similar programs. 

  • Early Childhood Teaching License
