General job summary
The Test Center Support Specialist assists the Supervisor in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the Test Center. The Specialist maintains the Center’s web-based appointment system and works collaboratively across departments to collect accurate instructions from faculty, the AISD team, and third-party exam partners. With limited supervision, the Specialist administers exams according to written and verbal instructions and industry best practices. The Specialist exercises discretion and sound judgment when dealing with ambiguity, confidential information, and academic integrity issues. The Specialist provides front-line customer service at the Test Center’s locations in Cedar Rapids and Coralville, as well as training and support to faculty for accessing the Center’s services.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide positive support and excellent customer service to students, other testing candidates, and Kirkwood employees.
  • Maintain the Test Center’s scheduling system to ensure appointment availability is aligned to the academic calendar, Test Center operating hours, and staffing.
  • Oversee test takers using desktop monitoring software and video surveillance tools.
  • Follow specific protocols and give clear instructions to individual with diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Communicate with students, Kirkwood employees, and the public in person and via phone and email.
  • Work collaboratively to plan, organize, and deliver standardized and individual exams.
  • Access appropriate tools for problem solving.
  • Assist faculty in accessing Test Center services via in-person support and instructional materials.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding test taker and exam information.
  • Read exams aloud, proctor exams virtually, and gather necessary exam information.
  • Analyze and share exam results with test takers based on established protocols.
  • Set up and provide basic troubleshooting and technical support on Test Center computers and software.
  • Work at the Test Center’s locations in Cedar Rapids and Coralville as needed. May include some evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

  • Position involves working in an office setting.
  • Occasional (10%-33%) standing, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
  • Frequent (34%-66%) reaching, viewing a computer, and other types of close visual work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn multiple computer platforms.
  • Equivalent to three (3) years of employment experience in an office or post-secondary setting OR an associate’s degree.
  • Candidate needs to be eligible and maintain eligibility to proctor 3rd party exams including, but not limited to, ACCUPLACER, Pearson VUE, HiSET, and Kryterion.
