Faculty - Clinical Coordinator (201-Day) (Temp position)

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: 

The instructor/clinical coordinator faculty member is responsible for the program's compliance with the clinical component of the MLT program as defined by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) and the American Society for Clinical Pathology certification board (ASCP). The instructor/clinical coordinator must be responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences, including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of evolving clinical practice skills, and general effectiveness of clinical experience. The instructor/clinical coordinator coordinates students’ clinical assignments, ensures clinical site compliances are met, maintains clinical related documentation, and verifies students' clinical performance. The instructor/clinical coordinator also serves as a point of contact for the clinic sites. The is instructor/clinical coordinator is expected to maintain consistent communication with the clinical site instructors. The instructor/clinical coordinator will assume other responsibilities within the program such as administrative duties and instruction in the classroom and in the laboratory. This position is a full-time faculty appointment with program administrative duties.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Have regular and consistent contact with students, clinical site instructors, assume responsibility for clinical site instructor’s orientation and training.
  • Coordinate and schedule clinical assignments. 
  • Establish clinical onboarding process for students and clinical site instructors.
  • Communicate and work with students, clinical site instructors and clinical facility staff in a cooperative, professional manner.
  • Monitor student performance routinely at clinical courses throughout the semester.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and progression of the clinical experience.
  • Maintain clinic related documentation according to the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) requirements. 
  • Adhere to NAACLS accreditation standards and policies.
  • Provide required clinical practicum placements to each student in compliance with NAACLS standards and clinical site managers' requirements.
  • Effectively organize, teach, and revise course work in accordance with syllabi, including various delivery formats, methods, work schedules, and locations.
  • Possess the ability to organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Manage a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with department and College objectives, guidelines, policies and practices.
  • Assume responsibility;, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
  • Assist in the assessment of program equipment and supply needs and inventories
  • Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classroom/laboratory use.
  • Assist the Program Director with curriculum planning and development of courses.
  • Assist the Program Director with accreditation site visits and annual reports.
  • Work with the Program Director to ensure that student clinical experiences are coordinated with their didactic and laboratory education.
  • Participate in program advisory committee meetings.
  • Evaluate and report student performance and progress.
  • Regularly engage in professional development activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas.
  • Participate in departmental and college wide meetings and activities.
  • Promotes the College and the program and assists in recruiting and marketing the program to prospective students.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work.    Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Nationally certified MLS (ASCP) (or equivalent) with at least three years’ experience in the clinical lab setting. 
  • Minimum baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required.
  • Documentation of Bachelors/Master’s degree and transcripts from accredited institution. 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience in clinical laboratory science education that includes teaching at the college level, in didactic, laboratory and clinical settings.
  • Master’s degree from accredited institution.
