Medical Imaging Coordinator, Radiology Administration

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing a wide range of services and skills, while focusing on customer service. These tasks include but are not limited to; medical scheduling, medical orders, Advance Beneficiary Notification (ABN), image transfer, HIPAA, consent to release guidelines, maintaining a high level of written and oral communications, including use of the MARTII for non-English-speaking patients.
Job Duties
  • Process orders in Right fax, enter orders in Epic, upload orders from Right Fax into Epic and link orders to proper scheduled exams.
  • Validate orders for Imaging Center and Hospital for same day, next day, and 2 days out. Look at future appointments, call office to request orders for appointments, monitor and work off of Appointments without orders report.
  • Process Radiology ROI (release of information) and enters releases in Epic. Properly prepares radiology images on to a CD storage device, ensuring the validation of images on device prior to release.
  • Participates in the training of Radiology Students to ensure completion of student checklist.
  • Will become proficient with hospital radiology related computer systems.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with managing electronic images for MMC and other facilities utilization within radiology, Operating Room and ancillary depts.
  • Adheres to consent to release guidelines for imaging records, and HIPPA guidelines by obtaining accurate authorization to release information.
  • Performs scheduling notification of emergent and urgent patient exams for diagnostic testing to include coordinating communication between central scheduling and modality areas, prioritizing time sensitive and urgent level data.
  • Administers Advance Beneficiary Notification (ABN) as warranted.
  • Seeks clarification from provider when imaging order is incomplete or unclear to ensure medical compliancy.
  • Assists providers with the radiology ordering process.
  • Ensures that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand-offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.

Professional Experience
  • One year experience in medical field or secretarial position preferred
  • Experience in medical terminology and anatomy preferred.
  • Knowledge of Medical or diagnostic procedures preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduate of accredited medical secretarial training program preferred or one year experience in a hospital or medical setting preferred
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Required: Basic Cardiac Life Support certification in accordance with American Heart Association.

Schedule: PRN, Day, Variable day shifts, Saturday and Sunday
