ED Registration Coordinator, Patient Access

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by ensuring patients are registered correctly, registrations are accurate and complete and insurance verified. Oversees the activity and personnel for outpatient and emergency room registration.

Job Duties

  • Collects copayments for emergency department services when appropriate.
  • Initiates, assists, and completes the Medicaid Application Process for patients.
  • Reviews work for two patient identifiers and completeness of patient registration and reviews registrations for accuracy.
  • Supervises the activity and personnel within registration area and monitors work ques.
  • Provides leadership and assistance with special management projects.
  • Reconciles month end reports and monthly statistical data.
  • Fills in, delegates and monitors responsibilities at the staff levels.
  • Develops and maintains accurate job descriptions and performance standards for all job classifications.
  • Provides for mechanisms to measure, analyze and manage variation in the performance of defined processes.
  • Utilizes productivity measures and adjusts processes to optimize effectiveness and efficiency within the A/R management process.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings to aid in communication.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements staff training and quality programs.
  • Provides input to preliminary Capital, FTE and operating budgets for MMC business services departments by due date.
  • Implements and coordinates with Manager to evaluate programs for operational effectiveness, and makes required changes for continuous improvement.
  • Monitors and coordinates with Manager staffing levels, schedules, employee relations, employee discipline, and performance evaluations and inputs data into LaborWorkx (time and attendance, scheduling, etc.).
  • Recommends the integration/utilization of existing systems in conjunction with Technology Services.
  • Identifies future needs, new technologies and products for applicability to the department and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficient in operation of computer, calculator, filing systems, copy/fax machines and telephone system.

Professional Experience
  • Required: Minimum two years related experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent strongly preferred. Relevant experience to be considered in lieu of degree.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Preferred: National Association of Healthcare Access Management

Location: Mercy Medical Center - Cedar Rapids · Patient Access
Schedule: Part Time, Evening/Night, 6:30pm 6am 6:30 till 5am 4 days a week/every other wkend
