The Public Policy Center (PPC) at the University of Iowa seeks an Office Manager to support the vision, mission and goals of the Center by providing outstanding service to our visitors, faculty, staff, and students. The Office Manager is the first point of contact for the Center and reports to the Assistant Director. This position provides day-to-day operational and administrative support, manages space and facilities, and reviews HR transactions, among other duties. Impeccable customer service and interpersonal skills are required to be successful in this role.

About the Public Policy Center 
The Public Policy Center (PPC) is an interdisciplinary research center in the Office of the Vice President for Research. We support a large intramural research program and a university-wide research development program, emphasizing, but not limited to, the social sciences. PPC researchers investigate some of the most important problems facing society at the local and national level. We share the resources and expertise of the University of Iowa with policymakers and the public through our engagement activities. Student involvement and training in research is emphasized, as is the development and support of interdisciplinary research across all Colleges.


Education or Equivalency Required
A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate at least 1-3 years of professional administrative (e.g. office, clerical), experience within a University setting within the last 3 years. University of Iowa experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrate 1-3 years of reception and first point of contact experience for in-person, email, and telephone contact with excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience initiating various transactions (e.g. tasks related to business resources such as purchasing; procurement; travel; and payroll administrator experience).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software applications, including but not limited to the Microsoft Office Suite, including the ability to perform first-level problem resolution before seeking help elsewhere.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully and professionally in various modes (in person, email and telephone) to build and strengthen professional relationships.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Demonstrate 1-3 years of experience managing multi-line phones.
