The Johnson County Attorney’s Office has an opening for a full-time civil division Secretary II. High school graduate or equivalent and 2 years clerical experience required with keyboard accuracy 55 wpm minimum.  Prior legal and collection experience preferred.  Starting hourly rate $19.70, plus excellent benefits. Specific Duties:

  • Prepares, researches, enters and maintains electronic records of payments of defendants' court-ordered financial obligations; reconciles complex statistical reports with the Clerk of Court
  • Promptly handles and processes debtors' payments, including electronic posting of scheduled payments to Courts Online.
  • Responds to all inquiries regarding payment or enforcement of court-ordered obligations, including processing requests from correctional institutions for information and orders regarding inmates' plans of payment.
  • Prepares, delivers and files stipulations for post-probation defendants and other defendants, confessions of judgments, agreements to pay and financial statements; monitors compliance with payment of the stipulated amounts.
  • Prepares and files contempt of court citations, garnishments and related documents; conducts consequent negotiations with defendants regarding payments of court obligations necessitating enforcement; monitors compliance with payment plans; prepares motions and orders continuing hearings or requesting arrest warrants for the contempt of court actions.
  • Refers to the Iowa Code for information regarding criminal matters and governing collections with emphasis on probation, driving privileges and delinquent fines; conveys that information as needed to inquiring members of the public.
  • Prepares general correspondence as requested.
  • Performs general clerical duties such as photocopying, filing, faxing, typing and making deliveries.
  • Shares mail duties and assists with telephone answering; responds to questions from callers and walk-ins seeking assistance or information concerning rules and procedures.
  • Performs duties of a Secretary I as needed.
  • Participates in training/educational opportunities and work-related meetings as required.
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreement, and safety practices.
  • Attends work regularly and at the designated place and time
