University of Iowa Pharmaceuticals (UIP), a division of the College of Pharmacy, is seeking applicants for a full-time Manufacturing Supervisor. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the sterile products manufacturing group. The position will coordinate with the manufacturing managers to ensure the staff, equipment, and supplies are prepared to complete sterile products batches. In addition, this position will be involved in administrative supervision of staff including the scheduling of staff.

Duties to include:

  • Conduct and evaluate installation, operational, and performance qualification of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Write clear and concise protocols, protocol amendments and SOPs.
  • Operate and maintain sophisticated software/hardware and/or production equipment.
  • Assign work, instruct and train in methods and procedures, check and approve work.
  • Perform human resource functions including interviewing, selection, training, performance evaluation, salary determination, promotion and disciplinary action.

This is an exciting time to join UIP, as the business continues to grow in capabilities, new clients and revenue. In 2020 the College of Pharmacy will be moving into a new $96.3 million College of Pharmacy building. The lower level of this new building will be home to the UIP new sterile products manufacturing area which will be approximately 16,000 square feet and will increase UIP batch size capacity approximately 5-fold to 20,000 vials/batch.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing experience.

Experience Required

  • One year experience in the following:
  • Sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing and
  • Creating, editing, and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures or similar documents.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience in one more of the following:
  • Factory Acceptance Testing of manufacturing equipment
  • Implementing current Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Personnel training
  • Assisting with project management
  • Ensuring SOP compliance within unit

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to ensure safe practices in daily operations and effective maintenance and repair services for physical premises.
  • Performed training on GMP or safety SOP’s.
