The College of Nursing seeks applicants for a Nursing Clinical Education Center (NCEC) Simulation Associate, Instructional Services Coordinator who under the direction of the NCEC Simulation and Interprofessional Education Director, is responsible for the functioning, operation, and support of all equipment in the Nursing Clinical Education Center (NCEC). The NCEC Simulation Associate supports all learning activities associated with the College of Nursing (CON) related to lab courses and simulated clinical care through scheduling, resource management, and production of clinical learning spaces. Simulation related activities such as operation and maintenance of all simulators, computer systems, recording systems, and medical equipment are central to the job. Responsibility includes problem-solving routine technology issues in center equipment. The NCEC Simulation Associate provides technical guidance to clients, both internal and external in supporting their simulated learning activities.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Operate and maintain high fidelity simulators, the computer systems, recording systems, and medical education equipment for use in clinical simulations. 
  • Problem solve function issues with simulators and patient care equipment.
  • Diagnose function issues with simulators, consulting with manufacturer tech support as needed; repair simulators or facilitate repair by the manufacturer.
  • Support the use of AV equipment used in lectures, conferences, webinars, etc.; problem-solve routine technology issues.
  • Support the use of AV equipment, classroom technologies, and software including Microsoft Office, Skype, Muse, UNI & UI, Vivo, TouchPro, Vitalsim and SimPad+ LLEAP. Review and reconcile resources for NCEC activities.
  • Set up and tear down simulation and clinical lab stations. Provide artistic support for NCEC users including moulage and manikin preparation.
  • Instruct faculty, students and other healthcare employees on safe operation of equipment including all manikins and simulation equipment.
  • Coordinate check in and out of equipment; inspection and cleaning at check in.
  • Assist in developing instructional materials to support the curriculum for NCEC courses and external agencies.
  • Support and participate in outreach events such as facility tours, recruitment events and philanthropic endeavors.
  • Maintain inventory, procure supplies, equipment, materials or services within established guidelines. Serve as 'receiver' of goods. 
  • Recommend purchasing materials for simulation and lab courses. Explore purchase options, review products, and provide input for purchase decisions.
  • Facilitate recycling/reusing of medical supplies.
  • Assist in monitoring accounts/expenditures.
  • Annually train in cash handling protocols.
  • As a Certified BLS trainer, train College of Nursing and Department of Nursing employees (primarily nurses) in Basic Life Support (BLS) Training Certification for compliance. NOTE: If not a Certified BLS trainer at time of hire, certification will need to be achieved within the first year of employment. 
  • Provide input into development of NCEC policies and procedures, as directed by the executive committee.
  • Provide functional supervision for NCEC work-study employee(s) and student computer operators, as directed by Director of Simulation and Interprofessional Education.

Education Requirement
  • Bachelor's degree in a science field or other related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Required
  • Six months-1 year administrative or program services experience.
  • Demonstrated skills to troubleshoot and investigate operational difficulties with medical, computer and/or audiovisual equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex scheduling and balance multiple competing demands for resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect information and develop recommendations regarding technical and/or operations with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer software applications.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull 50 pounds or more on occasion.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Health Simulation Operations Certification (CHSO-S)
  • Medical background (NA, PNA, NUC, EMT, RT, PT Assistant, MA, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Previous experience with clinical simulation equipment or other complex technological devices.
  • Previous work experience in an academic environment and/or academic healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of University and UIHC policies, procedures and regulations.
