Job Information:

The University of Iowa Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development seeks a self-motivated professional to serve as IRB Application Analyst in the Human Subjects Office. This position will provide administrative assistance and expertise for the human subject’s protection programs and services administered by the Human Subjects Office (HSO).  Pre-screen IRB applications to provide initial review. Assist with coordination of the activities and interactions with the Institutional Review Boards (IRB), other University committees, and UI investigators.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current and relevant social behavioral science research or research administration experience (typically 6 months to 1 year).
  • Demonstrates basic level of proficiency the review of human subject’s research applications and Informed Consent documents for an Institutional Review Board (IRB) in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Demonstrates working level of proficiency identifying problems and obtaining resolution alternatives.
  • Demonstrates working level of proficiency processing information with good accuracy. Evidence of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates working level of proficiency in facilitating collaborative communication and working well with others in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrates working level of proficiency listening to feedback and adding value to customer interactions.

Desired Qualifications

  • One or more years’ experience conducting research involving human participants, or in a related administrative role supporting human subjects research OR One or more years’ experience working with federal regulations.
  • Working knowledge of university policies and federal regulations regarding the protection of human subjects in research.
  • Technical experience with an electronic research application database or other data management system or electronic workflow system.
