The University of Iowa, FM Business and Financial Services department is seeking an Accountant. This position will monitor project fund expenditures and allocations for University of Iowa capital projects through BuildUI financial database. It will process and review daily transactions for purchase orders, contracts and vendor payments of varying complexity and materiality. The Accountant will assist project managers and construction managers in managing project budgets and provide accurate data to ensure projects stay on budget. Additionally, it will review account statements and reports to verify compliance with source or funding guidelines and respond to financial inquiries from University of Iowa departments regarding project sta tus and project expenditures.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the and .
Duties to Include:
- Prepare original and correcting/adjusting accounting entries.
- Reconcile UI capital and non-capital projects on a monthly basis and immediately resolve discrepancies with Design and Construction staff or UI departments.
- Respond to financial inquires and resolve problems from UI departments regarding project expenses and prepare project cost summaries.
- Review capital project related transactions for appropriateness of expenditures, post daily activity into BuildUI, reconcile differences with Design and Construction staff, departments, and sponsors, and maintain records to support project activities.
Location: University Services Building (USB)
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional experience (typically 6 months – 1 year) of accounting experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer software applications including Microsoft Office.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Accounting degree.
- Professional experience (typically 2 or more years) of accounting experience.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa business policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa business applications such as PeopleSoft, AP-PO, E-Pro, Pro Travel, E-Deposit and GLDSS.
- Familiarity with capital project accounting.
- Understanding of relational data tables; experience with pivot tables in MS Excel.
