The University of Iowa Business Services Department is seeking a qualified Accountant that will specialize in cost accounting and inventory management for multiple service departments, especially for Printing and General Stores. This position is responsible for daily and monthly accounting functions for Business Services units in addition to account reconciliations, documenting cash handling procedures, preparing original and correcting journal entries and preparing billing files for submission to general ledger. Additionally, this position will review financial transactions for accuracy and appropriate classification.

This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.

Duties to Include:

  • Match AP vouchers to invoice and packing slips with departmental system and reconcile with GL (TDR)
  • Maintain inventory control including cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Reconcile inventory, A/R and holding accounts monthly
  • Maintain up-to-date cash handling procedures
  • Prepare special financial analysis requested by management.
  • Initiate basic and/or routine original and correcting journal entries
  • Prepare month end billing journal entries
  • Ensure department is in compliance with GAAP and University policies and procedures

Location: Mossman Business Services Building MBSB

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Salary: $39,732 to commensurate

Required Qualifications:

  • BBA in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience (typically 6 months) related accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) accounting standards
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Access
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of automated systems
  • Able to work with large data sets
  • Knowledge of inventory control
  • Familiarity with Crystal Report Writer
