Accountant / Parish Administrator

St Ludmila Catholic Parish

St. Ludmila Parish, a progressive faith community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is looking for an Administrator that will support St Ludmila Parish and St John Cemetery. Interested applicants must be a team player, detail oriented and a self-starter.This position is supervised and evaluated by the Pastor of St. Ludmila Parish and Finance Council. This role could be filled on a part-time or full-time basis.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide bookkeeping and payroll services for St Ludmila Parish and St John Cemetery
    • Accounts payable
    • Bank deposits
    • Payroll preparation, direct deposit and tax payments for the parish, Bingo and RE
    • Maintain general ledger/journal entries
    • Implement and maintain electronic fund transfers
    • Prepare monthly finance statements
  • Maintain parishioner tithing records
    • Maintain parishioner contribution records
    • Print and prepare mailings of parishioner statements as needed
  • Provide reports for the Finance Council and the Archdiocese of Dubuque
    • Prepare finance council meeting agenda
    • Provide monthly financial reports to the finance council prior to the meeting
    • Attend monthly Finance Council Meetings and serve as recorder
    • Prepare annual status and financial reports for the Archdiocese of Dubuque
  • Serves as the Human Resource Contact person for the parish and cemetery
    • Maintains personnel files for parish staff, religious education and bingo program
    • Stays current in regards to back ground checks, tax forms and personnel files
    • Maintain Archdiocese, “Who’s Where” programs
  • Cemetery Record Keeping
    • Work in cooperation with Cemetery Personnel to create Plot Deeds
    • Maintain burial records
  • Development Component
    • Maintain and help build a development database
    • Once a year prepare letter and mailing to raise maintenance funds
    • Keep accurate records and provide donor substantiation letters
  • Provide reports for the Cemetery Corporate Board
    • Provide monthly financial reports
    • Attend Corporate board meetings 
    • Prepare annual status and financial reports for the Archdiocese of Dubuque
  • Other duties, as assigned

Position Specifications and Requirements

  • Skills, knowledge and abilities
    • Knowledge of basic accounting principles
    • Ability to use various computer software programs (Microsoft Office Products)
    • Ability to use or learn to use office machines including:
      • Copiers, printers, folding machine, postage meter, phone system, etc.
    • A self-starter able to meet deadlines
    • Maintains confidentiality of personnel and financial records
    • Detail oriented with a focus on accuracy
  • Degree in Accounting and/or 3 years experience is preferred
