The University of Iowa is seeking a motivated individual for our Accountant position. This position performs a broad range of accounting and financial analysis responsibilities that support the billing office and the third-party billing areas within Treasury Operations. It will conduct or assist in reconciling accounts receivable payment accounts, loan disbursement accounts, and third-party payment accounts in MAUI to the University’s general ledger. The Accountant position will provide direct customer support for departments with questions related to University billing and scholarship funding and disbursements. It will also be responsible for posting transactions to the University’s billing systems and general ledger as needed.
This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.

Duties to Include: 

  • Knowledge of federal regulations related to student aid, FERPA, etc.
  • Review daily balances of unspent aid in order to determine the correct usage. Serve as the main point of contact for departments in order to ensure aid is disbursed to student accounts in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot and assist departments with manual aid adjustments such as funding sources changes and cancelling aid that was applied to student accounts in error.
  • Provide assistance to the 3rd Party Workflow Manager with administering third party sponsor invoicing processes.
  • Review U-bills with credits monthly. Reach out to account holders in order to resolve large credit balance issues. 
  • Assist the Sr Accountant with performing reconciliations of payments applied to student accounts, including credit card, ACH, Lockbox and wire payments

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience (typically 6 months) accounting related and/or experience in financial record analysis. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to change.
  • Proficient in computer software applications/demonstrated competence with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of FERPA regulations.
  • Knowledge of Federal Student Aid regulations.
  • Experience with MS Access and/or experience using SQL.
  • Experience with the University’s student and/or financial systems.
  • Knowledge of University business policies and procedures
