Salary Range: $25.20 - $37.25
Starting salary is determined based upon factors that may include: years of relevant experience, education, applicable certification/licensure, and internal equity.

Basic Job Function and Responsibilities

To assist with the preparation, maintenance and analysis of Mercy, Iowa City and affiliated financial reports and budgets; to assist with the development and implementation of financial procedures and policies.

Job Duties

  • Assists in the budget preparation.
  • Carries out established policy for the control and retention of accounting records
  • Completes special projects assigned
  • Consults with and/or advises fiscal management staff and other departments relating to general ledger entries and reports.
  • Coordinates general accounting functions and ensures all General ledger entries are accurately and properly recorded.
  • Creates and maintains computerized general ledger master files and report files.
  • Establishes and maintains schedule for all financial reports and coordinates schedules with user departments, data processing and systems analyst, in conjunction with the Accounting and Budge Manager, subject to approval of the Director of Fiscal Management and the Vice President of Finance.
  • Evaluates and recommends procedures for recording financial information to improve and maintain efficiency.
  • Maintains and updates fixed asset records; additions, disposal and transfers. Calculates annual depreciation amounts and adjusts general ledger to reflect actual.
  • Monitors all bank accounts and recommends transfer of funds for investment when appropriate.
  • Prepares financial reports.
  • Prepares journal entries to General and Subsidiary Ledgers in compliance with established accounting policies.
  • Reviews all financial computer reports for accuracy and completeness. Resolves all problems or errors in conjunction with the Accounting and Budget Manager.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:


  • A bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in accounting, finance or related business - Required.


  • Hospital or public accounting experience minimum 1 year - Required.
  • Microcomputer experience - Required.

Certification(s), Licensure(s) & Registration(s)

  • A CPA - Preferred.
