Account Technician

Linn County

Performs general accounting work involving the independent application of basic accounting principles and practices.

Duties:

  • Employees in this class are responsible for maintaining primary recordkeeping and reporting systems, which affect multiple departments, divisions and/or accounts.
  • Work requires independent judgment on technical accounting issues.
  • May review the work of other employees or serve as lead worker.
  • Knows the County’s Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County’s Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis.
  • Verifies, monitors and adjusts invoices, payroll and billings in accordance with regulatory agencies, contracts and grant requirements.
  • Prepares reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and/or regulatory agencies and grant requirements.
  • Reconciles budget information and assists with County budget calculations.
  • Determines/adjusts account balances by analyzing/selecting the appropriate method mandated by authoritative sources including regulatory agencies and/or generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Researches/analyzes the impact of internal and external procedure and policy changes and reports findings.
  • May attend meetings where accounting and reports are discussed.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned. Knows the products they personally produce and the customers of each product.
  • Listens to the “Voice of the Customer” and closes gaps between customer expectations and experience whenever possible.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in accounting required.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a related field required working with accounting procedures experience, preferably in a large metropolitan county or government body; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of banking practices.
  • Good knowledge of office and business practices.
  • Skills in preparing accounting, financial statistical statements and compiling basic and supporting data.
  • Skill in the use of a keyboard, calculator and spreadsheet software like Excel.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of governmental accounting principles and procedures to a variety of transactions.
  • Ability to work effectively with officials and other employees.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information or data.
  • Ability to serve as a lead worker to review the work of Account Clerks.
  • Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test after offer of employment.
  • May be subject to criminal history review.
  • Regular work attendance required.
  • Mandatory and voluntary overtime will be required at various times throughout the year and/or during special projects.

Shift:

  • 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday

Hourly Wage: 

  • New Hire: $24.61 
  • 90 days: $25.90 
  • 1 year: $27.36 
  • 2 years: $28.75 
  • 3 years: $30.33
