The Treasury Operations Department of Finance and Operations is seeking an Senior Accountant to perform a broad range of accounting and financial analysis responsibilities. This position is responsible for oversight and supervision of the reconciliation process for the Billing office. This position administratively supervises an Accountant who performs reconciliation duties. This position is also responsible for correcting entries, whether prior to or after submission to the General Ledger. They are responsible for administration of scholarships to student athletes in conjunction with the compliance office in Athletics. Their responsibilities also include administration of all cashiering functions in the Billing office. This role will trouble shoot and resolve variances, have an understanding of database system (MAUI) contingencies and inaction with other components of the student system. The position will create and update tables for the billing function in MAUI and be responsible for communication with departments related to MAUI reporting and charging to the University Bill.

Duties to Include:

  • Knowledge of window balances in MAUI, how entry correction design is designed, along with MAUI table setup as backup to director in establishing accounting entries, correct usage of charge type/resource MFK. Contact for departments in recommending reports and/or explain results.
  • Responsible for entering Athletic Awards into Maui in collaboration with the Athletic Department and the Office of Student Financial Aid. Awarding is done in compliance with NCAA, Big Ten and University regulations.
  • Perform loan reconciliations for disbursements to students. Also supervise accountant that reconciles cash accounts. Sets up tables in Access monthly for others to perform recon duties.
  • Assist in administration of MAUI Billing table setup, access to the Billing tab and security roles. Monitor processes to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and University regulations
  • Perform monthly entries in conjunction with Payroll and making correcting entries that were not processed due to closed MFK in entries from MAUI or work with departments to update MFK table when notified to prevent closed MFK entries from being sent to GL
  • Supervise Accountant that assists with cash handling for window balancing, reconciles cash and loan MFK's and ACH coordination.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of accounts for Federal Direct Loans, Private Loans, Prepayments and ACH Returns.

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am - 4:30pm

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year related accounting experience, to include account reconciliations, analysis of financial reports and/or monitoring financial systems. Similar experience may also include reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications/demonstrated competence with Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong independent thinking and problem-solving skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access
  • Experience with the University’s student and/or financial systems.
  • Knowledge of cash handling best practices
  • Accounts receivable billing experience
