Accounts Receivable Analyst

  1. Collects past due accounts receivable by contacting customers daily.
  2. Gathers and analyzes information supporting uncollected freight bills and miscellaneous bills.
  3. Maintains daily cash receipts journal, and monthly register for accounts receivable adjustments, customer overpayments and suspense items.
  4. Records daily collections and approved adjustments on individual customer accounts.
  5. Prepares various month-end general journal entries summarizing cash receipts, miscellaneous billings, and adjustments to customer accounts receivable.
  6. Reconciles various accounts receivable aging reports (subsidiary ledger) to general ledger for freight and miscellaneous bills, for car hire receivables, and for interline payables/ receivables.
  7. Prepares check requests or accounts payable offsets, as needed for customer overpayments, car hire receivables and interline payables/receivables.
  8. Processes daily cash receipts on computerized bank machine.
  9. Prepares other reports, projections and analysis as needed.
  10. Prepares non-system generated invoices as needed.
  11. Maintains necessary level of confidentiality regarding various information.
  12. Performs back-up duties to Accounts Payable when necessary.
  13. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education, Licenses/Certifications and Work Experience:

  • Two years of college with general business, accounting and/or computer courses or comparable experience in Accounting, Finance, or Communications, etc. 
  • Three years of accounts receivable (or five years of business office) collections experience preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Mental Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software and related systems.
  • Ability to operate automatic and mechanical accounting machines and equipment
  • Working knowledge of general office equipment.
  • Possess a basic understanding of business math, algebra and accounting principles
  • Possess a high level of analytical skills for detail-oriented work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstration of excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to enter data accurately and timely.
  • Ability to prepare and file reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, management, and customers (internal and external).
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting processes.
  • Ability to process a high volume of transactions while prioritizing work in order to meet deadlines.
  • Team player with a high degree of professionalism.


Constant (67 – 100%) viewing a computer and other types of close visual work, sitting, talking and hearing either on the telephone or in person and repetitive motion.  Occasional (10 - 33%) reaching, bending and lifting up to 25 pounds.  Must be able to sit for long periods of time at a computer terminal.  May be stressful at times due to multiple tasks to be completed and deadlines.


Duties are performed in an office setting and employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions and noise levels.
