The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Finance and Accounting is seeking a Revenue Integrity Analyst. The new role will work closely with the Hospital and Physician Chargemaster (CDM) Senior Financial Analysts, as well as the Director of Revenue & Reimbursement and other UI Health Care staff to update and maintain the Hospital and Physician CDM’s in compliance with Federal, State and other 3rd Party payer regulations. Financial Analyst will serve as a resource person to staff throughout UI Health Care for questions around pricing, billing and coding.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Hospital cost center assignment and Hospital / Physician charges for General Ledger and Budget accuracy.
  • Identify problems relating to the CDM process and prepare reports on non-compliance or error trends. Work with departments experiencing problems to facilitate compliance.
  • Ensures the code assignment within the CDM is compliant with Federal, State, and other 3rd party payers. This is done in conjunction with the Joint Office of Compliance and the Professional Coding Division.
  • Maintain individual and aggregate data necessary to meet Federal and State requirements.
  • Serve as a resource person to staff throughout UI Health Care and affiliated entities involved in revenue generation for questions around pricing, billing and coding.
  • Educate staff on appropriate charging for services provided.
  • Work with departments to develop charges for new and revised programs and to develop package rates for certain procedures as needed. Review research requests for financial approval.
  • Review price levels with peers to determine competitive price structure.
  • Review regulations and literature to maintain current knowledge base and identify changes and determine how changes will impact charges for services provided.
  • Proficient use of system tools including but not limited to: Epic, GL Reporter, and Microsoft Office.
  • Develop working relationships throughout the UI Health Care departments and provide timely and accurate information to management and departmental requests.
  • Demonstrates respect for all members of the University community in the course of performing all duties and in response to administrators, supervisors, coworkers, and customers; constructively brings forward workplace concerns to coworkers and/or supervisor.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use the methods, processes, and tools for maintaining and preparing accurate and thorough financial analyses.
  • Knowledge of and ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from regulatory, financial and numerical material.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 0-3 years accounting, auditing, cost accounting, budget and/or financial analysis experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer software applications. Must have experience using Microsoft Excel.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Epic’s Patient Accounting System.
  • Understanding of CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding.
  • Experience with medical coding.
  • Nursing or clinical background.
  • Reasonable knowledge of complex financial and statistical analysis and presentation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and / or SQL databases.
