Primary Objective:  Proactively own and improve the companies grain accounting and management information systems and be the accounting champion for grain operational processes.

Areas of Accountability:

The following duties are typical for this job.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

  • Own the completion of the monthly mark to market accounting process for grain.
  • Maintain the grain division financials to include forecasting, budgeting, expense analysis, and location financials.
  • Oversee the daily balancing of the daily position report (DPR), long-short, and general ledger.
  • Coordinate and reconcile month-end and year-end physical inventory measurements with DPR and be key resource to assist location personnel with this process.
  • Create and maintain grain processes across the company. 
  • Lead and coordinate training and education across the company as it relates to grain practices.
  • Responsible for grain portion of annual 1099-PATR to our members.
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy of insurance valuation and reporting for grain assets and grain stocks.
  • Account for the broker hedge activity, including hedge position by type, margin calls, spreads, etc.
  • Establish and maintain process to ensure accuracy and timeliness of purchase and sales contracts into software system.
  • Oversee the effective use of the grain software system and lead company’s efforts for future development for internal operations as well as customer facing apps and portal.
  • Create and customize reporting tools to address business needs utilizing software system, advanced excel and SQL.
  • Work with VP of Grain and CFO to recommend and implement new processes, reporting, new contracts, etc. to continue to improve our grain division value proposition for our employees and customers.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with four to five years related experience.  Industry experience a plus.
  • Displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate information or ideas effectively in written or oral form.
  • Ability to multitask with excellent independent thinking and judgment, problem solving and research skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs, including Word and Excel.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Adaptability:

Requires static strength to lift, push, pull, or, on occasion, carry objects with a minimum weight of 50 pounds.  Flexibility to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.  Some tasks involve repetitive motion.
