The College of Nursing at the University of Iowa invites applications for a Business Officer who will take a leading role in the planning, administration and evaluation of the College of Nursing’s fiscal activities and provide strategic advice and guidance regarding all aspects of the budget and financial matters to the Dean and collegiate leadership.   The key areas of responsibilities of this position include financial oversight and budgeting; financial reporting; financial analysis and planning; compliance with policies, regulations and operational oversight; transaction processing; strategic thinking; and leadership and training.

Key areas of responsibility
Accounting – Knowledge of and the ability to use the methods, processes and tools for maintaining and preparing financial statements and reports.

Financial Analysis and Planning – Knowledge of and ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
Financial Reporting– Knowledge of processes, methods and tools for creating and maintaining accurate and thorough financial reports.

Managing Finances and Expenses– Knowledge of and ability to use the functions, tools and processes needed to manage financial assets and liabilities throughout the organization.

Effective Communication – Ability to effectively convey information, both verbally and in writing.  

Strategic Thinking– Applies organizational acumen to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization. 

Required qualifications include:
  • Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive course work in business administration, finance, and accounting or related area required. 
  • Seven or more years of comprehensive budget and financial planning leadership experience within complex environments.  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer software applications. Knowledge of business systems and/or implementation and enhancement of IT systems to support strategic and financial planning and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work environment.
