Indirect Loan Officer

UICCU is now taking applications for the position of Indirect Loan Officer. We need someone who is precise, accurate, and analytical to handle all facets of the lending process without letting the details slip through the cracks. In this role, you'll be responsible for counseling and interviewing applicants for loans and processing primarily indirect loan applications in accordance with established retail lending guidelines.

You'll also gather background information and analyze loan applicants' credit history. With that information, you will approve or deny loan applications. The Indirect Loan Officer will also perform all reasonable tasks to promote credit products to our field of membership and protect the credit union from undue financial loss. 9am-4pm Rotating Saturdays

$22.20 - $33.31

Performs essential duties and responsibilities in the following areas which may include, but are not limited to those listed and are subject to change:

  1. Adheres to the Credit Union's core values in serving with truth, trust, mentoring, openness, risk-taking, communication, giving credit, integrity, caring and respect in carrying out the UICCU's mission and vision.
  2. Demonstrates a positive member service (internal and external) focus at all times, greeting members and guests with a smile and eye contact immediately upon their arrival. Consistent usage of the members name during contact and always thanking them for their business.
  3. Demonstrates teamwork in all interactions with coworkers and in the completion of all duties and responsibilities.
  4. Ensures confidentiality of member information.
  5. Cross-sells all Credit Union products and services, and opens new accounts for members. In addition to the primary savings account and indirect loan, member needs should be assessed and education take place so that at least one additional product or service can be placed with the household during the transaction process as well.
  6. Conducts credit interviews and performs comprehensive credit investigations on all types of credit applications, including but not limited to credit cards, secured and unsecured consumer loans and mortgage-secured loans.
  7. Processes primarily indirect lending credit applications, but with the ability to also process other types as well, and obtains any documentation necessary to make a sound credit decision.
  8. Underwrites and provides retail loan exceptions, up to the level assigned.
  9. Obtains credit reports for all accounts. Verifies debts, estimates monthly payments for any outstanding debts not listed and adds them to debts on application.
  10. Works towards balanced representation in each risk category used in pricing structure. On a monthly basis, works with Indirect Lending Manager to adjust pricing structure as needed to ensure balance in each category as well as competitiveness in the marketplace.
  11. Calculates debt-to-income ratios and unsecured debt to gross income ratios on loan applicants.
  12. Approves or denies credit applications within the scope of Credit Union retail lending guidelines and policies, and individual approval authority.
  13. Prepares loan documents, closes loans, and performs file maintenance duties as required, including hard files and data files.
  14. Evaluates approval ratios with various dealers on a quarterly basis and reports to Indirect Lending Manager accordingly. Working with these staff members, addresses dealer relationships requiring additional attention to ensure effective use of departmental time and resources.
  15. Determines collateral needs and payment plans for members applying for loans.
  16. Explains reasons for denial and explores options for members when loans are denied.
  17. Ensures that mortgages and financing statements are properly filed, and security interest is perfected on loan collateral, and that the Credit Union is named as lienholder on applicable insurance policies.
  18. Reviews loan and member files to develop additional sources of loan production.
  19. Sells credit insurance and other loan protection products.
  20. Implements new retail loan products and services in accordance with management directions.
  21. Maintains orderly files on each account with attention to complete and accurate detailing of all problems or correspondence.
  22. Strengthens relationships with local automotive dealers and maintains those relationships. Working with Vice President/Credit Administration, develops a “call schedule” to ensure ongoing contact with dealerships we currently work with, involving Indirect Lending Manager when available. Reports results of call schedule to Indirect Lending Manager on a monthly basis.
  23. Performs any necessary collection work on delinquent accounts at the request of the Vice-President/Collections Supervisor, working these accounts until satisfactory objectives are met, or recommended for charge-off. From time to time, may be involved in collection work on legal reserve accounts. Provides status reports on delinquent accounts to management and Collection Department.
  24. Plays a vital role in enriching the community by participating in community service organizations and/or Credit Union sponsored events on an annual basis.
  25. Performs any other duties as may be required to meet Credit Union objectives.
  26. Handles incoming requests for mortgage subordinations from other financial institutions. Approves subordinations when appropriate, communicates decision to requesting institution, returns completed documents, and maintains copies of documents for UICCU files.
  27. Acts as an administrator of our loan origination software.


Job Requirements

  1. Reports to work punctually, works all scheduled hours, and works overtime as necessitated by business demand. Job will require a non-traditional workweek with extra hours including evening and/or weekend duties.
  2. Ability to prioritize work assignments and organize work efficiently, to handle large volumes of details.
  3. Sales ability and interpersonal skills to represent the Credit Union in a positive way during member contact.
  4. Accuracy and attention to detail required.
  5. Knowledge of consumer loan policies, credit granting criteria, interest rates and how they are computed, and required documentation for each type of loan. Knowledge of interviewing skills and techniques required.
  6. Thorough knowledge of consumer credit and bankruptcy laws.
  7. High school diploma or the equivalent (i.e. GED).
  8. Minimum of one year consumer lending experience or equivalent financial background desired.
  9. Ability to operate related computer applications.
  10. Must be bondable.
