Staff Accountant

Job Information:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a wide variety of regular and recurring accounting functions requiring full professional competency. The position contributes to the growth and profitability of the company by defining, implementing and evaluating the accounting systems and processes, ensuring proper internal controls. This position assists the Sr. Accountant with all aspects of the Finance department, also requiring some assistance with Sales and Operations departments.

JOB DESCRIPTION: List principal responsibilities, duties and tasks of job:
Accounts Receivable

•Conduct credit review of customers requesting terms
•Oversee receivables accounts and ensure collections are timely
•Invoice and reconcile to customer purchase orders
•Set up customers records and maintain up to date tax and financial documents
•Process refunds, deposits, credit card payments from customers
•Manage international banking
•Oversee rewards programs; including MileagePlus, PerksPlus, American Express program

Accounts Payable
•Match purchase orders to receipts and enter bills
•Enter and reconcile credit card transactions; ensuring proper documentation is received and policies are followed
•Review expense accounts for accuracy with understanding of the impact on financial statements
•Set up vendor records and maintain up to date tax and financial documents
•Calculate and report sales tax to tax agencies
•Understand and be able to analyze daily banking transactions

General Accounting
•Create journal entries and ensure monthly accounting activities are completed accurately within established deadlines
•Reconcile general ledger accounts
•Analytical review of general ledger and detail of accounts
•Support management in the preparation and analysis of financial statements
•Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports
•Provide analysis, support and recommendations for financial audits
•Create budget to actual variance reports, and review with department managers
•Assist with bi-weekly payroll including new hires, terminations, pay increases, job/manager changes, direct deposit and tax withholding changes, miscellaneous deductions such as garnishments. Ensure accuracy and completeness of information provided. Work with Human Resources on all employee changes. Process variable compensation packages.
•Implement and maintain solutions for the finance department within the current ERP system and future financial applications. Create reports, dashboards, and queries upon request. Troubleshoot issues within the system and track back to root cause. Continuously look for new opportunities for ongoing improvements of the system.
•Develop and maintain policies and procedures; must remain aware of regulatory responsibilities and remain current in technical areas

Additional Duties
•Assist Operations to ensure accurate inventory and reporting
•Make recommendations to improve processes, increase efficiencies, and ensure compliance with established procedures
•Support Sales department with administrative duties as needed
•Other projects as assigned
•Provide back-up phone support

Position Specifications: Skills, experience and education required to perform this position (Equivalent job experience might be substituted for educational degree):
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 2-3 years professional accounting experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. ERP system experience preferred.
•Basic understanding of financial statements and general ledger structure
•Proficiency in MS Office Suite
•Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization demonstrating a commitment to excellence in customer service
•Strong analytical and research skills with a demonstrated ability to drive projects through to completion and increase efficiency of existing processes to consistently perform in a fast-paced, collaborative, high volume, growth oriented work environment
•Ability to meet tight deadlines, with excellent time management and organizational skills
•High integrity and ability to handle information of a confidential nature
