Fiber System Technician

The Fiber System Technician assists in providing continuous and reliable data services by installing, testing, and maintaining all fiber plant and field networking equipment.
Requirements of position:
•Associates degree in Telecommunications Engineering Technology or at least 5 years of related work experience is preferred
•Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical manuals
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Must be able to operate computers and associated software programs without assistance and should have network management training or experience.
•Must be able to organize work to meet deadlines, set priorities and work with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
•Valid Driver’s License
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Able to install, terminate, and splice fiber.
• Able to install, maintain, and trouble shoot GPON headend and hub networking equipment.
•Able to understand, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair GPON fiber to the home networks.
•Have knowledge in construction and operation of overhead and underground fiber communication lines, tools, trucks, and related equipment.
•Able to use all hand tools, implements, devices, equipment and material coincident with work to be completed.
•Able to work on communications equipment in both the communication and power space.
•Work in conjunction with the Outside Plant Coordinator to ensure internet hubs are installed, tested, and ready for customer connections as required.
•Coordinate with Technical Services Manager on installation and maintenance issues
•Perform quality control inspection of contractors as needed and inspect work after completion to ensure that it has been done in accordance with RUS communication standards and other applicable specifications and codes.
•Respond to network outages in order to get fiber communication system restored in a timely manner.
•Assist Fiber Installation Technicians with in home installations as needed and interact with members for installation and issue resolution regarding data services.
•Regularly scheduled hours are M-F 7:30am-4:00pm with overtime as required.
