Family Support Specialist
The Family Support Specialist works with identified "at-risk" children enrolled in the Waypoint Child Care Programs and their families to connect them to community resources to meet their needs, reduce barriers in their life, and ensure success. In addition, helps families determine eligibility and helps navigate the family through the Department of Human Services (DHS) and/or Waypoint's Sliding Scale-Fee Program. This position will directly report to the Managing Director of Child Care Services.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
•Develops procedures with the Managing Director for Child Care Services for administering the Financial Assistance Programs.
•Helps families on financial assistance navigate through the DHS financial assistance application to ensure all paperwork is completed in an efficient manner. Also, helps families using Waypoint's Sliding Scale-Fee Program with proper completion and submission of application materials.
•Acts as Waypoint's liaison with DHS regarding on-line database and compliance.
•Coordinates enrollment with the Child Care Directors in the Financial Assistance Programs according to annual budget.
•Collaborates with the Child Care Leadership Team to identify new families who could benefit from participating in the Financial Assistance Programs.
•Provides case management to all families utilizing the Financial Assistance Programs; connects them to other Waypoint Services such as Waypoint Wonderland, Daytime Resource Program, Housing Programs, and Domestic Violence Programs. Also, connects them to other community resources in order to meet needs of the children and families.
•Maintains professional relationships with community agencies and keeps up-to-date knowledge of the scope of services offered by each.
•Provides weekly updates to Accounting Department regarding status of overall case management.
•Occasional travel to other sites or locations for the purpose of program oversight, meetings, workshops, or other general errands.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
•Maintains client and program confidentiality as defined in the Waypoint Confidentiality Policy.
•Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional manner, both in appearance and actions in carrying out job responsibilities.
•Attends and participates in Waypoint departmental, interdepartmental and staff meetings as directed.
•Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
•Performs all other duties as assigned by Waypoint.
•Bachelor's Degree in Human Development & Family Studies, Social Work or a related field.
•Experience working with children in a child care facility and child development related training to meet DHS licensing requirements as on-site supervisor.
•Minimum of two years of direct experience working with children and families and/or teaching experience in a licensed child care center.
•Receive a negative report on Waypoint/DHS Non-Law Enforcement Records Check and National Criminal History Check. Repeated every two years.
•Demonstrated proficiency with various computer operations, including Microsoft Office applications and database software.
