Human Resources Coordinator

University of Iowa Department of Pathology is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to be responsible for the following duties: provide specific Human Resources support functions for the Department of Pathology. Responsibilities will include providing oversight of performance management activities throughout the department as well as leading recruitment, retention and recognition initiatives in the department. As directed by the Operations and HR Manager, will provide initial advice/guidance to Faculty, Managers and Staff on UI and departmental HR policies and practices. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified individual seeking to work in a fast paced environment within our Pathology Human Resources section. The Department of Pathology employes approximately 500-plus employees.


•A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

•2 or more years of human resources experience

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office

•Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.

•Ability to work in a self directed manner in a fast paced, high transaction volume environment


•Working knowledge of state and federal regulations pertinent to human resources management

•Prior experience with recruitment activities and/or compensation analysis is highly desired

•Experience providing HR management in a unionized environment highly desired

•Working knowledge of University policies and procedures, including those covered by multiple employee groups (i.e. faculty, postdocs, bargaining and non-bargaining staff, graduate assistants and students)

•Human Resources Professional Certification (i.e. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP.
