Diamond V, who is recognized throughout the animal nutrition field as an innovative, scientifically- motivated feed ingredient supplier, is seeking to hire a part time Animal Care Assistant located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Animal Care Assistant will be responsible for performing duties with regard to care and feeding of the livestock animals and maintaining a clean work environment. The successful candidate will be required to work on average 17 hours per week, including AM and PM shifts, and weekends and holidays. Starting wage is $11.00/hour.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Include but are not limited to the following.)

•Caring for the livestock animals at Diamond V

•Sample collection and handling

•Help to maintain a clean, safe and healthy working environment

•Responsible to assure that the animals are cared for on weekends and holidays

•Evening, weekend and holiday work will be required


•Overall thoroughness and accuracy of work performed

•Effective and sound decision making ability as to the day-to-day maintenance of the animals

•Reliability and regularity of attendance

•Effectiveness of communications and working relationships with others at the company


Education, Experience and Skills:

•Ability to focus on details, efficiently handle small and large animals, understand animal behavior, and enjoy working with animals

•Large animal experience preferred

• Ability to follow detailed procedures and instructions

•Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•Must be highly dependable and punctual in reporting to work

•Ability to maintain the integrity of highly confidential business information

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:

•Occasional exposure to noise, dust, damp conditions, temperature extremes (feeding, cleaning and handling animals outside)

•Exposure to allergens from animals and feedstuffs may be high when performing certain duties (feeding, cleaning, and handling feedstuffs)

•Works with some chemicals and bio-hazardous waste that, if handled improperly, may be a health hazard

•All barn equipment, including but not limited to feed cart, water tank, water hose, power washer, washer and dryer, feed mixer, drying oven, scales, grinder, hand tools, shovels and broom

•Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pound bags of feed and bales of hay to a height of 5 feet and move with assistance (wheelbarrow) up to 100 feet

•Position involves frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling to transport feeds, manure and livestock and operate equipment

•May require a substantial amount of repetitive motion
