Associate Financial Analyst

Position Overview:

This position has a significant impact on the proper allocation of costs to products and inventory accuracy and therefore on the financial viability of company through lower capital employed, improved customer service, and improved information for management decisions. Responsible for analyzing, planning and developing policies, programs and procedures to most efficiently /effectively manage cost control methods and reports to management and long-range plans and interpretation of cost/budget variances.


Ensure that inventories are properly valued by providing accurate ingredient and packaging write-offs, correct ingredient and packaging costs, and meaningful prorate basis. Manage held and obsolete inventory. Schedule and reconcile physical inventories.

Work with Production Group Members to develop, analyze, and maintain plant efficiency information as required to ensure this facility is able to compete as low cost producer. Will also work closely with Q A, Logistics and Systems.

Monitor the cost accounting system by analyzing cost information on a daily, monthly, YTD basis to ensure that data is being compiled accurately, timely, and completely and work with the appropriate people, both internally and externally to correct problems.

Maintain records necessary to review and determine individual product ingredient and packaging supply costs (i.e: ensure accuracy of bills of material, investigate significant material price changes).

Develop and improve reporting into and out of the Material Accounting System ensuring accuracy and timeliness of completion of reports for management use.

Develop and plan special financial analysis designed to increase profit potential and/or reduce cost. Compile regular and special statistical reports.

Maintain viable material accounting system while constantly pursuing meaningful improvements and/or refinements. Maintain and develop documentation programs and procedures for major cost systems. Will cross-train as needed or as indicated.

MonitorDCand plant finished goods inventories and provide assistance and expertise necessary to ensure corporate variance goals are met.

Support fiscal year planning including recommendations and strategies.

Responsible for moderate to complex cost analysis and audits associated with the cost accounting function.

Finance support for cost savings analysis, allocation, tracking and reporting.

Analyze product costs and COGS variances.

Plays a key role in the month-end close process to include journal entries and account reconciliations.

Finance support for excess and obsolete inventory reserve.

Participate in the preparation and compilation of the annual financial plan.

Work with Corporate Purchasing, R & D, IS, DC's and vendors.

Provide ad hoc financial analysis and other financial duties as requested or assigned.

Active involvement and participation in plant TPS activities.

Serves as back up to Financial Analyst and to Manager, Finance.

Job Requirements


Education: B.S. or B.A. Degree required

Experience: 1-3 years cost accounting experience in manufacturing environment preferred.


Ability to deal with ambiguity, change and a dynamic business environment.

Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookups and other data manipulation formulas).

Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment.

GAAP: fundamental knowledge of, understanding of internal and external research methods for, and driving compliance of

Internal Controls: experience working with and maintaining existing controls

Systems and Tools: experience working with and making recommendations for efficiencies with systems and tools, such as SAP (JDE, PeopleSoft, Business Objects)

Continuous Improvement: experience identifying areas for continuous improvement and/or cost reductions and making recommendations for enhancement

Reporting: proven ability to consolidate complex information into usable customer oriented formats

Business Partnering: experience working closely with internal customers, peers and effectively managing those relationships

Critical Thinking: experience providing insightful analysis to business partners in response to business need or opportunity. Effective independent judgment and discretion.

Work environment is a production facility involving moderate to loud noise levels.

Must be able to maintain focus and accuracy in a work area that can involve multiple distractions.

Equipment Operation:

Must be able to use standard office equipment including copier, scanner, mobile / handle held device, and personal computer. Will also use equipment related to the profession. Will learn the operation of all production equipment in the plant.
